In Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the names Clothier, Barnes, Wetherill, Elkins, etc. probably helped elicit interest in a new womans organization soon to be chartered in Washington DC. This small group of 13 soon became hundreds of volunteers who met merchant ships, rolled bandages for WWI, attended many naturalization ceremonies and began the first local Red Cross division. Deeply entwined in the late 1800 history of Philadelphia and Valley Forge, this Chapter continues to exert as much aid and influence now as then.
