At present much attention is paid to the drastic reduction of drinking water resources and its quality. The consequences of periodic consumption of contaminated water can be different. There is a risk of catching infectious diseases, ruining the digestive tract or even getting poisoned. This problem is particularly pronounced in rural areas where drinking water is taken from wells or relatively clean small mountain rivers. The book proposes a new integrated approach to assess the hydrochemical quality of drinking water sources, which involves a numerical assessment of water contamination and its classification using the new Drinking Source Water Quality Index (SDWQI) method. The proposed method makes it possible to identify a group of the most dangerous pollutants in the source water, make a comprehensive assessment, classify water quality, make a forecast of the expected deterioration of quality under sustained anthropogenic impact. The ultimate goal of these recommendations is to contribute to providing the population with good quality drinking water in sufficient quantity to carry out reliable health protection.
