Newly promoted detective Ginger Walker and her boss work together to solve whether or not a recent burglary of a crime file from Plaquemine Parish Sheriff Office is connected with their investigation of the death of a local judge's law clerk and the torching of the historical courthouse in the parish. Their leads on the cases take them from this bayou parish near New Orleans to a Jefferson Parish civil litigation against one of their own prominent members of Plaqememine Parish from an earlier decade. They find a cover up of prior criminal behavior by Jefferson Parish that has emboldened the  new crime spree in their own parish. When the autopsy of the clerk reveals heroin laced with strychnine, they follow leads to a corrupt local Plaquemine patrol deputy with ties to a western Texas farm and a source for the strychnine. His friendship with a local attorney and an escort service lady of the evening gives him the opportunity to do a favor for the sttorney who wants to get rid of the clerk with whom he is involved with litigation over the mineral rights to a  piece of real estate. The cop and the lawyer  use the escort service lady of the evening to be a patsy for injecting the clerk with the heroin, with neither the clerk or the woman knowing what is coming. Detective Walker solves the case when she finds out that the clerk had used the womans's services and she gets the woman to reveal the source of her drugs.
