There has been a lot of interest around IPTV in recent years, and telco operators worldwide have responded by deploying IPTV solutions hoping to cash in. The main challenge that these IPTV solutions face however is that they face stiff competition from other, well established forms of television, which includes cable, satellite and low cost Internet Television. Hence in order to succeed, these IPTV solutions need strong service differentiators. This book therefore investigates the feasibility of deploying a low-cost, viewer focused IPTV solution using open source software. With most telco applications being hosted on expensive, third party service delivery platforms, it is proposed that the use of industry certified, open source service delivery platform, like the Mobicents Communications Platform, will help lower the cost of providing IPTV services. This book also goes on to argue that IPTV service providers can help their product sell better through viewer focused implementations and the use of innovative billing approaches. The resultant solution, aptly named COIN, is put forward by the authors as a possible solution to providing low cost, viewer focused IPTV
