Weather Critic Volume 4 takes a closer look at common everyday objects. The images presented were photographed during travels to Indiana, Iceland, Finland, Japan, and Estonia in 2018. Although vastly different in culture, design problems and solutions transcend geography to highlight the basic question of how do things end up looking the way they do? There are no real answers proposed here. However, between the images a dialogue emerges about how someone, at some point, wanted something to look or function. Who knows what the true intention of some of these objects reflect; locally available materials, traditional forms, basic function, eccentric ornamentation, style or intuition. The process of design falls into the hands of the idea haver, the designer, and the object maker to ultimately produce common forms that we experience in different ways. Knobs, Plinths, Caps, Toppers, Benches and Wedges celebrates the process and product of these objects.
