Nichole Lawrence Anderson is devastated when her mom breaks the news about the divorce. Shes never been close with her mother and blames her moms legal career for all the family problems. Shes only 14-years old and is struggling with her identity. Only Maria, the housekeeper, and her faithful dog, Dakota, seem to understand her. Suddenly, Nicki starts getting in trouble at school. Mean Gretchin and her evil sidekicks have been bullying Nicki for years, calling her Nicki Law because of her mothers position as a high profile criminal defense attorney. Nicki suddenly snaps one day on the school bus after a snide remark by her rival and pops her in the nose. For the first time, Nicki is confronted with suspension from school and now a civil lawsuit from Gretchins mother. Even worse, Nicki finds out her best friend Sierras father is missing and is accused of stealing thousands of dollars from the Immokalee Casino where he works. Nicki becomes closer with her mother and convinces her mom to take on the case. Things get even crazier when Sierra gets abducted by the same malicious men who framed her father. Ironically, Gretchins mother, who is a cop, is the lead investigating officer in charge of Sierras missing whereabouts. Tension builds as the two mothers are forced to maintain their professionalism and work on the case together. Nicki becomes involved in a series of chaotic events, including food fights in the cafeteria, her own kidnapping, and earns a new heroic image at school, which all bring her closer to her mother. Nicki Law is a name that no longer shames her. In the end, Nicki also discovers the truth about the divorce and the secret that her mother withheld from her to protect her from detesting her father.
