Sesame Street research is the extensive research that producers and experts carried out when scripting the popular childrens television program Sesame Street in order to improve its educational qualities. Sesame Street, according to author Michael Davis, is perhaps the most vigorously researched, vetted, and fretted-over program. As of 2001, there were over 1,000 research studies regarding its efficacy, impact, and effect on American culture. It was the first time that research was used in the development of a childrens television show. By the end of the shows first season, the Childrens Television Workshop (CTW), the organization founded to oversee its production, had developed what came to be called the CTW model, a system of planning, production, and evaluation that combined the expertise of researchers and early childhood educators with the shows writers, producers, and directors.
