They were also allowed the usual American diet. This includes foods high in fat and protein, but low in fiber, magnesium, potassium, and calcium. By doing so, even though this group had levels of potassium and magnesium equal to that of about 75% of Americans, their fiber consumption was pretty high because of the veggies and fruits.The second group was told to eat in line with the DASH diet. Like the first group, they were to consume high proportions of vegetables and fruits. Group two had high magnesium, potassium, calcium, and fiber content.
