Sgt. Jake Michaels has a unique insight into the intricacies of conflict He successfully led his men in unconventionally reversing an enemy ambush during an early operation. Jake finds himself trapped in the midst of an enemy encampment under a malicious bramble bush called the Devils Horns. He sees Sgt Tran a Viet Cong noncom his present and eventual nemesis. Jake discovers this force is infiltrating into the South with a war changing cargo. Trapped in the middle of Charlies camp in response to the stress of the mission Jake undergoes an epiphany. Old ghosts long feared, buried and left unresolved emerged into his consciousness. New demons attacked his mind and recent unresolved questions concerning the progression of his field operation poured forth. Jake himself was wounded in the calamitous events that resulted in an ultimate victory. Jake and several of his men believe they were targeted by an enemy spy who has burrowed into the command structure at headquarters. They have vowed to eliminate him.
