This is the story of a poor immigrant, born in a small town in the heart of the Apennine mountains about 80 miles east of Rome; a small town, but ?anked by the gigantic Abruzzo Massif, in an area rich in history and beauty. He was orphaned at 8. Ambition and stamina were stronger than his poverty and misery, and so he was able to complete his chosen formal education in Rome. He survived the cruelty and dangers of the Second World War, while doing well in college and obtained a coveted medical degree from the University of Rome.
