This novel presents the attempt of a young man looking back into his childhood to find the demons still seeking him that seem especially hungry for his younger brother Del. The events described are at times coldly graphic as they display the childrens reactions to the foreboding war years of 1940s America. The setting is a small town in eastern North Carolina as recalled by the older brother Kan Ellis. He writes of that recent past at the age of thirty. Kan writes then from an infants knowledge of Christian faith, attempting to find meaning now in their childs lives then. What starts as an outline of this young life soon becomes a puzzle of events either incomplete or built of a fiction of his mind. As Kan Ellis seeks to complete his story he discovers disturbing events that his kid brother does not recall. Much of this account takes place at the old honky tonk beach of Carolina Beach, North Carolina, itself a last frolic for the young soldiers and marines leaving for World War II. These children were also leaving for that war! What if you could go back to your childhood? What if you could then use your adult mind to understand those events? What if you discovered a past not over, one that instead sought you out, itself unsatiated, even as you chased it? What if this biography of youth became too full of implications to be benign? What if the intuitive mind of the child became your only guide out, the weapon of choice, but to use this tool you must again become a Gnostic warrior, not hampered by present reality?
