DR. VERNON ANLEY was educated in Australia and in England. After leaving university he worked for the Ministry of Overseas Development in the West Indies before resuming an academic career in Europe and the Far East. He has co-authored and edited a number of books on linguistics, and written guides on the Hejaz and Yemen. His novel, A Carnival of Lies, about the complex developments in Germany between 1939 and 1945, won the 2012 All Editor's Award for the best work of historical fiction. A Divided Universe has been called 'a work of exceptional importance' (Falkiner) and been widely appreciated for its thought provoking description of the human condition. His children's book, The Orange Tree and Other Stories, illustrated by Miranda Thompson, has been nominated for the 2014 Moonbeam Children's Book Award. His latest book, It Happened in Hanoi, takes the reader deep into the conflict of Vietnam’s long and brutal war between French colonialism and the United States. Historically accurate and bearing all the hallmarks of epic fiction, it’s no surprise one reviewer recently wrote, “…an insightful commentary on the dangers of State administration disengaged from the restraints imposed by normal governmental practice, and a gripping story of a man’s search for meaning in a world threatened by organized violence and terrorism.”  Reviews of the author's books can be found on his web page: www.vernonanley.co.uk
