Part 1 deals with the horse itself: the domestication of this incredible animal and its impact on the advancement of civilization; horse maintenance and health; and training the horse. His training suggestions are clearly explained and can be easily executed by even beginning riders should they choose to do so.In Part 2 Lee shares his incredible knowledge about horse equipment which can help any rider work their way through the confusing maze of bits, horse supplements, and saddles. Of particular interest are the chapters on bits which a person would do well to read several times.Part 3 of the book covers the various disciplines the horse is ridden in and/or trained for. Lee covers the extensive training and use the military has had with the horse, even into current wars. He also discusses English and Western riding and harness horses.For riders new to the equine world, Part 4 will be an eye-opener. Even knowledgeable riders may be shocked by the author's revelations. Lee shares his opinion of "The Show Ring," a discipline he used to participate in but quit doing due to disgust. The discussion of Racing, race track practices and the treatment and subsequent injuries of race horses will surprise and shock most readers.
