I got a job working for Polaroid Corporation. I was hired into the same department and the same day as a black man, also going to college and we became fast friends. Our boss was clearly racist and he had a real problem with my friend and I share a table for lunch in the cafeteria. It became a talking point every time I had an evaluation. At some point, I asked if I was paid for my half-hour lunch break and the answer was, No. I then asked why my lunch break was up for discussion every time I had an evaluation. He finally dropped the subject. This set the stage for the belief system I developed as a young adult.With the advent of YouTube and cameras everywhere, everyone had access to what was going on with cops killing unarmed black people everywhere and it was impossible to ignore.
