Jacques Papy is a much better known translator than Pierre Martin.Jacques Papy was born 28 March 1908 and died in 1968. Jacques Papy is known for his translation of Alice in Wonderland by Lewis Carroll for Jean-Jacques Pauvert. He also translated Robert Louis Stevenson's Treasure Island, Charles Dickens' Oliver Twist, Sheridan Le Fanu's Carmilla, plus novels by John Steinbeck, Morris West, Alfred Bester, Norman Lewis, and numerous short stories by Ambrose Bierce, Fredric Brown and Fitz James O'Brien.Ishi Press has reprinted translations of Winnie-the-Pooh into 33 languages thus far. We have published it in Afrikaans, Armenian, Bengali, Bulgarian, Chinese, Croatian, Czech, Danish, Dutch, Esperanto, Finnish, French, German, Greek, Hungarian, Icelandic, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Latvian, Persian, Polish, Russian, Serbian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish, Yiddish, Hindi, Urdu, Khowar, Kalasha and Latin. We have six more languages lined up. This translation into French is part of project to translate Winnie-the-Pooh into other languages. The idea is children need to learn to read at an early age and the best way to teach them to read is to provide reading materials that they find interesting.
