GROWING UP GREENWICH is a somewhat true, greatly embellished, slightly snarky account of growing up working class in what is arguably Americas wealthiest community. The time frame is 1959 through 1979, and is seen through the eyes of Sally, a nosy parochial school kid, her off-kilter family, and the celebrities they interact with, especially the iconic Miss Rance. Sally sees the social problems and moral dilemmas of the town and the times from her unfettered perspective, attempts to get to know her family, and moves on to some small personal victories over the span of twenty years. GROWING UP GREENWICH touches on the subjects of mental illness and substance abuse, homosexuality, and the influence of the Catholic Church, and does so with an entrancing mixture of sarcasm, respect, and a great fondness for that unique era.
