As a child in England, Ann suffered with asthma and spent a lot of time in bed. The author and her family did not have television in those days, so reading her books and looking out of the window was how Ann passed her time. She wrote this poem for her mother and, when her mother dies, it was found in her effects. After reading the poem to a group of children and seeing how attentive they were, the author decided it should be an illustrated childrens book. Anns background is in theatre, having received a bronze, silver and gold medal from the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art. She has toured Britain, performing in plays and musicals. After coming to the United States, the author performed at the Totem Pole Theatre in Chambersburg, PA, and toured in Pennsylvania with the childrens theatre group, The Tadpole Players.
