A Traveling Preacher Stirs Up the Devil in the Deep South... Everyone has a coming-of-age story, but Martys is in a class by itself. Scriptured! is a rollicking, rabble-rousing, exuberant and vivid tale of a twelve-year-old boy in the 1970s who is confronted by an enemy wearing a preachers face: Reverend Gilgal, who draws an enraptured audience when he preaches, but whose true colors are different than hed like the town of North, South Carolina to believe. Marty and his cousins Fish and Brownie come to realize that theyve been given rare abilities that oblige them to accomplish greater things, whatever the cost. Marty has to unveil the truth, and protect Tammy, his first love, who has become entangled in Gilgals net. Along with his inexplicable new abilities, Marty has to contend with the wisdomy ways of a colorful cast of characters around him, from his legendary grandmother to the questionable Melvin James, from the songstress Precious Rivers to the thundering words of the Bible. Preachers, plowers, pulpwooders, prodigals-theyre the supporting cast of characters for a young man with a unique calling. Watch and listen as the threads of his story weave together into a living tapestry of the Deep South, where language is music, common sense is poetry, and everyday life is a memorable adventure.
